Call for Proposals: Scholars At Work Conference

Scholars at Work Conference

March 30, 2018
Call for Proposals and Papers

Teaching, creative achievement, and research are integral components of academic life. These factors weigh heavily in tenure, promotion, and reappointment decisions, but more importantly they are also part of our daily work. We are constantly looking for new ideas to improve our teaching and our students’ learning. We seek answers to interesting questions, often engaging our graduate and undergraduate students in our projects. We develop creative works and performances to entertain, to inform, and to stir the emotions of an audience.

But the irony is that your work is better known by people outside of the university rather than those of us within it. Therefore, full-time and contingent faculty are invited to participate in a one-day, peer-reviewed academic conference showcasing the teaching, research, and creative works of the Minnesota State Mankato community. The Scholars at Work Conference is an opportunity to learn more about the exciting intellectual work happening all around us and to create networking opportunities that may lead to future collaborations and innovations. And since professional development is important for our graduate students as well, faculty are encouraged to present with their graduate students.

This inaugural event will be a traditional conference experience of presentations, posters, and a conference proceedings. Talk about teaching ideas and innovations. Share your research passion. Perform a selection from one of your creative works. Help us learn more about what you do and how it is part of the vibrant tapestry of the university.

Submit a 300-500 word abstract of your project at http://tiny.cc/ScholarsAtWork

Faculty and graduate students are also encouraged to submit a paper to the conference proceedings, which will be hosted in the Cornerstone Archive. For questions about the proceedings, contact Carrie Miller (carrie.miller@mnsu.edu).

The Scholars at Work Conference is sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, The Center for Excellence in Scholarship and Research, IT Solutions, and Library Services. The conference co-chairs are Dan Houlihan (CESR), Carrie Miller (ATS), and Jennifer Veltsos (CETL).
